ATAMA Ecological Reserve is located in a remarkable sanctuary of lush vegetation in the middle elevations of northeastern Costa Rica Caribbean slope and only 1½ h from San Jose city. It ‘s a place for nature lovers, a place to learn and understand the wonders of the neotropic ecosystems. The reserve is a 42 acre conservation area boarding the Braulio Carillo National Park, one of the countries largest conservation areas. Our reserve is a mixture of primary & secondary forest which gives you the chance to get an insight into the rainforest and our commitment to conservation, education and sustainable development projects. YATAMA is a young project founded in 2002, Our focus is on the protection and research of the reserves biodiversity and our goal is to become a field station were students and researchers from all over the world can study the tropics and from here face the challenges of conservation with knowledge and respect.  There are many ways you can volunteer to be a part of  conservation efforts.
